Loft Beds?

Loft beds get me really excited.

What kid wouldn't love a loft bed? I mean, it would of been my dream come true.

My friend Whitney and her husband Kevin, recently built this loft bed for their little boy.

Those two are truly amazing.

Since Emory will be turning 4 next month (what!!) I am toying with the idea of doing a loft bed in her room.

Of course mine wouldn't be built-in (my construction skills are weak!), but semi-custom.

I love the look, how much space they save, and how functional they are.

Gallery Wall Update!

Things have been a little rough around here the last couple of days.

Emory caught a nasty cold and has been feeling pretty yucky.

Poor thing, it just breaks my heart!

I was able to update my hallway gallery wall.

I added 3 smaller frames from ikea, $6.99 each, and changed up the layout a little.

I like it so much better.

While I was at Ikea I found this print in the sale section for $1.25.

I love it and you can't beat that price.

And I am sure you have noticed that I added 2 of my chair printables.

Slow and steady right?

Now I am off to snuggle with my little one, the only benefit of having a sick kid!

Cross Stitch Embroidery Wall Art

I am so inspired by Eline's Pellinkof's embroidery wall art.

She creates beautiful pieces of art by painting cross stitch patterns, so unique.

This cross stitch owl would be so fun in a kids room or play area.

I would love to try this out!

I wish I had somewhere to paint one of these, but my 2 bedroom condo is skimpy on the free wall space.

So when I came across this DIY cross stitch art, I was thrilled.

I am thinking of creating one of these for my gallery wall.

Keeping It Kid Friendly

If money wasn't an issue (which it is, boo!), I would splurge on kids furniture.

There is something about it's mini size that I can't get enough of.

Restoration Hardware Baby & Child have some furniture pieces that make me drool.

How about a mini tufted leather rolled arm sofa?

Yes, please.

Or this dining set?

I am pretty sure this is tea party heaven.

I love the classic lines paired with the rustic finishes.

Perfect for kids, they tend to be a little rough on furniture.

And wouldn't it be nice to have kids furniture that is easy on the eyes?

Changing Up My Gallery Wall

Well, i've decided it's time for a change, imagine that.

I purchased everything for my original gallery wall at a thrift store spending only $13.00 total.

It did the trick for a while, but I always planned on changing it up.

I've decided to go all white.

Can you ever go wrong with white frames? I don't think so.

I purchased all the frames from Ikea.

I must admit, I am completely obsessed with Ikea's ODBY Frames, I love the ribbed edge and the mats are pure white, unlike the other frames.

I still need to add several more frames, but I think this is a good start.

I am hoping to fill each frame with a DIY creation.

Alt Online Class Review

Remember how I was taking an online class from the Alt Channel?

Well it was last week and I loved it.

The class I took was called Growing Your Readership taught by Nicole Balch from Making It Lovely.

In the class we watched a live video feed of Nicole discussing blogging tips on growing your readership.

There was also a live chat session allowing the participants to talk during the class.

Nicole gave a short powerpoint, here are a few of my favorite tips she shared:

1. Orignal content

* Use your own pictures

*Create unique post lay-outs

2. Tell your story

*Share your life story

*Show-off your talents

3. Have consistency

*Make a schedule and stick to it

*Find a good rhythm

*Keep it consistent so your readers know what to look forward to.

4. Social Media

* Embrace Facebook, Twitter, Instagram!

*Post a mixture of personal and professional

At the end we got to ask her questions, it was awesome.

Not only was it packed full of good information, it was also a great way to connect with other bloggers.

I definitely think it was worth the $15.00 registration fee.

I am hoping to sign up for a couple more.

Today I have a treat for you, Elissa from Our House agreed to participate in my Best New Blogs series. As soon as I found her blog, I immediately fell in love with her style.

Hi everyone! My name is Elissa and I write the blog Our House. A little bit about me...well...I'm from Canada, I guess we can start with that! I grew up in a small town on the prairies but now I live with my husband and two kids in a city near Vancouver, British Columbia. I am a former university admissions professional, but I recently decided to stay at home with my kids and do the mom thing. When I'm not chasing after my kids, I'm renovating my home with my husband and scheming up another DIY project from myself!

As you can see, I can often be found shopping for my house in search of the best deal in town, with my two trusty sidekicks in tow, of course.

On my blog I like to document the fun everyday happenings of my home, the always entertaining (and never ending) renovation process, the things that inspire me, all the DIY projects I get myself (and sometimes my husband) into, the joy of a good thrift store find, and of course, all those crazy moments of life with kids!

My design style is pretty eclectic (vague, I know) but I like a little bit of everything. When making decorating/renovating decisions in my own home I tend to start with a classic look and find myself adding a bit of rustic, some vintage touches, a lot of white with pops of color here and there, and some clean modern finishes too! Our home has been a major work in process, but here are a few of the rooms we have been working on...

My favorite design trend right now would have to be warm metals! Lamps, frames, cabinet hardware, it's slowly making its way into my house over the past few years and I love it! I find these pictures so inspiring...love those touches of brass and gold!

The Power of Paint: A Bathroom Makeover

When Colleen from Lemon Drop Dreams posted her bathroom makeover this week I fell in love.

She completely transformed her bathroom with a little paint, how inspiring.

Are you impressed or what?

Isn't it amazing how painting the walls also updated the tile?

The black and white stripes really add so much glam to the space.

I also love how she added the black trim to the cabinet doors.

So chic.

And the simple black and white shower curtain really ties it all together.

I wasn't able to make it to Alt Design Summit this year (or yet!) and I am super bummed about it.

When Alt announced that they are offering online classes, I jumped right on it.

I signed up for the Growing A Readership online class with Nicole Balch, from Making It Lovely, and I can't wait.

The class starts this morning at 11:00 am.

I love my little blog but I need some inspiration and guidance to help me make it better.

I am so excited to get advice from Nicole, her blog is amazing and so is her personal style.

Adorable Nursery Tour

The other day I came across this adorable nursery tour on Project Nursery and I had to share it with you.

I love how simple yet stunning it is.

And the blue and coral color combo is quite delicious.

I adore that stencil, it is so pretty in a soft coral.

Fresh flowers always add the perfect finishing touch.

I really love everything about this space.

If you look close enough you can spot my Chinese Chippendale chair printable and my shield back chair printable.

I am absolutely smitten with her little gallery nook.

It really is perfect.

Design Work Progress...

Last week was a busy and productive week for a couple of my design projects.

I headed to Alice Lane with my client to select some pieces for her master bedroom.

We definitely found some goodies including this chest.

It is in the running for the nightstands, I love the marble top.

Oh, and I couldn't resist snapping a picture of this amazing tufted charcoal sofa.

It is absolutely perfect in every way. I need it, I want it!

Ok, back to the bedroom.

The main reason for our trip to Alice Lane was to check out this incredible tufted upholstered bed.

It is even better in person.

We immediately fell in love and selected the fabric, frame, and nailhead trim.

We went with a warm gray, gold patina frame, and zinc nailhead trim.

The bed is pricey so we are still looking at some other options but it is our #1 choice so far.

I can't wait to get some pieces ordered, this bedroom is going to be incredible!

If you are located in Utah, I highly recommend you head on over to Alice Lane, it is worth the trip.

I also had a chance to check on the progress of a nursery and select a paint color, a pale mint!

Online Living Room Design Reveal!

Do you remember this online living room design I recently completed?

I was so excited when the after pictures showed up in my inbox!

Here is the design board I sent her:

She just needed help with the finishing touches.

The room already had great bones which sure made my job easy!

I suggested adding the mirror and botanical prints to balance out the back wall and create a focal point.

I also selected throw pillows, drapery, accessories, and made a suggestion for a rug that she is saving up for.

The windows were crying for some love.

Simple white panels helped soften the space and add that needed finishing touch.

Isn't is amazing the difference accessories can make?

It's weird to think I've never been in this space.

Yay for online designing, it really is an awesome thing!

Thrifty Tuesdays: Chiang Mai Dragon Pillows

I bet you didn't think that Chiang Mai Dragon pillows and thrifty could be in the same sentence?

Well, I scored myself a pair of new 18"x18" doubled sided and piped Chiang Mai Dragon pillows for $40.00 each.

These beauties came all the way from the UK.

And they are perfect.

I know I am way behind the Chiang Mai Dragon craze but I still love them.

And I love them even more for $40.00 each.

I am still unsure about where they will land but I think they look pretty spiffy on my couch.

I highly recommend you check out this Ebay seller, she sure has some great deals!

Gotta love a bargain.

Baton Rouge Home Reveal!

I am back from my trip to Baton Rouge!

It was so much fun but I am completely exhausted!

Luckily my client and good friend Rachel has great taste, it sure made my job a lot easier.

She already had most of the furniture but needed help with the finishing touches.

In the living room we added the lamps, cowhide rug, ottoman tray, and bookshelf accessories.

We are able to find great deals shopping at Target, World Market, Z Gallerie, Hobby Lobby, and a few local shops.

It's amazing how adding the cowhide rug really finished off the room.

The tray and bowl are from Z Gallerie.

The lamps are from Target and the candy dish is from World Market.

I love the branches on the top shelf, we found those at Z Gallerie.

My friend loves stripes, how great are these chairs?

The entryway was such a fun little project.

All she had was a console table from Pottery Barn and we added the rest.

The mirror is from World Market and was only $150.00.

I can't get enough of it!

The rug was from Urban Outfitters for $69.00!

Love that chevron.

We also managed to give her master bedroom a quick overhaul.

We added the mirror, lamps, pillows, headboard, and accessories.

The front pillows are from Target, I adore them!

We made the headboard, more details on that this week.

The mirrors were a steal, $35.00 from Hobby Lobby!

I am so happy with how everything turned out.

Yay for speed shopping, now I need a long nap!

Also, the day before I left the painters arrived to start on the kitchen.

It is going to be amazing, I can't wait to show you. Just think white!

The French Quarter

Yesterday we took a little break from decorating and headed to the French Quarter in New Orleans.

What a cool place.

We were only there for a couple of hours but we still managed to...

Eat beignets at Cafe Du Monde,

ride the street car,

and gawk at the incredible architecture!

I love this place.

We then rushed home with enough time to make a headboard and hang a few mirrors, no biggie.

Lets just say...I am tired!

Today I will be taking photos of all our hard work before I head home.

I can't wait to show you, I am loving it.

A Little Progress...

Today was such a productive day.

We shopped for 8 hours straight and got so much great stuff.

Here are a few of our favorite purchases:

1. The Cowhide Rug

I love layering rugs and her living room was crying for a cowhide rug.

It adds great texture and interest to the space.

We bought this rug downtown Baton Rouge for $300.00.

2. Black and White New Orleans Print

We snagged this black and white print from an antique store downtown Baton Rouge for 20.00.

I love the personal touch it adds to her bookshelves.

3. Chevron Rug

We added a little chevron flair to her entry by picking up a rug from Urban Outfitters for $69.00

Yum.

4. Striped decorative balls

We found these blue and white decorative balls from an amazing home decor shop for $3.49 each.

My friend is obsessed with stripes so we couldn't pass these up!

Tomorrow we are getting all the supplies to make a DIY headboard and two pieces of art.

Yep, I love my job!

Headed South!

Yesterday I flew into Baton Rouge Louisiana to help a friend finish decorating a home she just bought.

The next four days will be packed full of shopping, decorating, DIY projects, and LOTS of eating southern food.

This is my first time visiting the good ole south, I can't wait to experience it.

I will be popping back in to share our progress, it should be lots of fun.

I don't know about you, but I regularly check my local online classifieds for furniture.

Every once in a while I find something I love.

Last night I came across a set of 4 faux bamboo chairs.

If I didn't already have some, I would snag these up.

They are asking $285.00 for the set, but I would definitely offer less.

They have a similar look to the ones used in these yummy dining rooms.

And I would definitely paint them a fun color.

Love the yellow.

DIY Dorothy Draper Nightstands!

Well, my nightstands are finally done.

Give me a what what!

Not going to lie, I kind of like them.

The process was pretty simple, just time consuming.

Thank goodness for the tutorial from Nancy and inspiration from Centsational girl, I really just followed their lead.

Here is how it went down:

1. Prime and paint the bases.

2. Enlarge a picture of the Dorothy Draper drawer detail and print it out.

3. Make a stencil.

4. Paint!

Go here for a more detailed tutorial.

When I pulled off the stencil there was quite a bit of bleeding, so I ended up going back in with a small paint brush and touching them up.

It took forever and they are not perfect, but I think they look pretty good.

Also, did you notice my new pillows?

I still haven't decided if they will stay in my bedroom or not, but I like them there for now.

Oh, and I am still planning on re-doing the headboard.

I just decided not to sell my original headboard until I am ready to get-er-done, hopefully this weekend.

A Good Day and A DIY Project!

Yesterday was a big day for my little old blog, I finally reached 1000 official followers!

Even though not everyone that reads my blog is an official follower, reaching 1000 on Google friend connect was a big thing for me.

Why is it so rewarding to see that number get bigger and bigger?

I even took a screen shot of it...

Yes, I am a dork.

It is so fun watching this blog slowly grow, it almost feels like my second child.

Thanks to everyone that sticks around, I sure do appreciate it!

I also started a project yesterday.

I kinda feel like I have been in a DIY rut lately and it felt so good to get back at it.

I have been wanting to make A DIY Dorothy Draper chest f-o-r-e-v-e-r, so I finally bit the bullet and got started!

It is taking a little longer than expected ( I still have 5 out the 6 drawers left to paint) but I hope to have them finished soon and I will share all the details!

Thrifty Tuesdays: New Colorways!

As you all know, I am a big fan of the Urban Outfitters Zigzag rugs.

The print is awesome and the price is even better!

And if you haven't seen the new colors they added, you must check them out...

Awesome huh?

And $79.00 for a 5x7, not too shabby!

These rugs are not the best quality but sure add a big bang for their buck. I think they would work perfect in a low traffic area, like a nursery or master bedroom.

Also, West Elm has also added a new colorway to two of my favorite rugs, grey!

The neutral color and graphic pattern is like perfection in my mind, and sure makes it easy to design a room around.

They also added this lattice rug, I love the deep charcoal color.

It really is amazing how excited a new color will get me.

Maybe I need to get out more...

Nursery Design

I have a couple of really fun local projects that I am working on right now, one of which is a nursery.

Children's rooms are my absolute favorite spaces to design.

This space is for a little girl due in April, my clients first!

She wanted a light, airy, calm, yet whimsical space.

I am excited about using some prints from Sarah Jane Studios in the room.

Her prints are so sweet and perfect for a nursery.

It is a small room but it think it will be cozy and welcoming.

On Friday I selected the fabric for the glider and we got it ordered!

We went with a charcoal fabric, I think it will contrast perfectly with the coral accents and minty walls.

We still have lots to do in the space but hopefully I will have some progress shots soon!

Also, this week is going to be a busy one.

I hope to have my new headboard finished, I can't wait.

I recently discovered Zinc Door and I am in love!

Here are a few of my favorite items...

I will need to save up my money though, my eyes are bigger than my student budget.

Matchbook Magazine: A Playful Nursery!

Have you seen Matchbook's January issue yet?

I adore this playful nursery designed by Sabrina Soto for her sister.

Bright colors and graphic prints are right up my alley.

And I am obsessed with that piece of art above the crib.

Believe it or not, it is just a piece of fabric by Marimekko.

I love this idea because I always get nervous hanging anything heavy above a crib, this art would be light and makes a big statement.

I quickly browsed through the rest of their fabrics and found a couple more beauties.

A New Year Means a New Headboard?

I have been itching to change up my bedroom.

I still like it but I am ready for something different.

Remember how I got this fabric for Christmas?

I was planning on making pillows for my living room, but once the fabric arrived, I couldn't help but wonder what it would look like on my headboard.

So, I quickly draped it over...

I had to railroad the fabric since it wasn't wide enough, but I think it works.

I hope you had a great New Years eve, I know I did.

We had a blast ringing in the New Year with some of our friends!

And to start the year off right, I thought I would share an online design board that I completed for a client's master bedroom.

She wanted lots of pattern, color, and graphic prints.

I love the way it turned out.

My inspiration for the room was this Lansdale Bouquet in Spring Schumacher pillow.

One of my favorite pillow Etsy shops, Woody Liana, makes the most beautiful lumbar pillows out of this floral print.

I love everything about this pillow.

Although I do think the perfect fabric is worth the splurge, it can really transform a space.

Top 10 highlights of 2011!

2011 was really good to me.

It was my first full year of blogging, 289 posts to be exact.

Wow, who know I had so much to say?

And a big thank you to everyone who takes the time to read me everyday, this blog would be nothing

without you.

I thought it would be fun to share my top 10 highlights of 2011, in no particular order...

1. I got a new look.

Thanks to Jenna from q.a designs, she really worked her magic on this one.

I am hoping to make a couple more tweaks soon to help things run a little smoother around here, I can't wait.

2. I finally finished Emory's room.

I was so flattered by all the blogs who featured Emory's room, it sure gave me warm fuzzes!

3. Adore Home feature

Umm, how cool was that? Little old me in Adore Home?

4. House of Fifty feature

I was thrilled when House of Fifty asked me to participate in their second issue.

It sure put a big smile on my face.

5. Online design reveals.

I can't help but be giddy when after pictures pop up in my inbox.

I love my job.

6. DIY sunburst mirror

I am still in love with my sunburst mirror, so easy and inexpensive.

7. My first television appearance on Studio 5.

Me on television? Quite intimidating but what an amazing experience!

8. DIY ombre art

I l-o-v-e my ombre art.

9. Started my FB page.

10. Completed countless online designs.

I am constantly overloaded with design work but I wouldn't have it any other way.

I am so excited to see what 2012 brings!

I am also hoping to make a couple changes around here, I can't wait.

Today I am heading to the stores with my mom and sisters to get some discounted Christmas decor.

I am so excited that we are only days away from Christmas.

We have been very busy getting ready.

On Tuesday I attempted to make caramels for Emory's preschool teachers.

It started off well...

But then I burnt them. Arg!

So I moved onto plan B, gourmet hot chocolate and candy canes.

I got this idea from the blogger social, Caitlin Creer brought it as her homemade gift.

I purchased the Silly Cow Farms hot chocolate from Whole Foods.

It might not be homemade, but you can't win them all.

Then on Wednesday we caught a plane and headed to Montana.

My parents place in Montana is like a little slice of heaven.

It is the perfect holiday getaway.

We purchased a mini real tree and decorated it with tinsel and colored lights.

An ideal kids tree if you ask me.

It has been SO nice to finally spend sometime with Zack.

He is loving cruising around on my dad's newest toy, the Rhino.

And finally Emory's cousins arrived today.

They quickly bundled up and headed up to Grandmas playground.

The fun has really just began. I absolutely love this time of year!

Keeping It Eclectic

I love it when I come across unique and eclectic children's spaces.

This play room by Aesthetic Outburst definitely fits the bill.

And look at that amazing chevron mat.

That's right, it's not a rug, it is a play mat painted with chevron stripes.

On Thursday night I attended a blogger social at Alice Lane Home Collection.

Kirsten from 6th Street Design School and Alice Lane put on quite the party.

Even the invitations were perfect.

The food was delicious, lots of yummy goodies to munch on.

We mingled for a while and then did a gift exchange.

We each brought a handmade gift to giveaway.

We drew names to see who won our gift.

I made a DIY sequin paper garland, just like Caitlin's.

I went home with 3 homemade journals that Diane Davis made, so cute!

Alice Lane went all out with the party favors, homemade biscuits and jam.

Entryway Sneak Peek

I had a chance to snap a couple pictures of an entryway that I have been working on.

We still have a couple of changes to make (like change out the lampshades and hang the mirror!) but I think it is coming together nicely.

I absolutely love the the cabinet.

We were lucky and snagged it while it was on sale.

It's amazing the difference a little mood lighting can add to a space.

I'd say it is starting to feel inviting, just like an entryway should!

I have been tinkering around on the computer making some Christmas printables for my home.

I am not completely finished but I have come up with two that I am happy with.

I hope to get them framed and up this weekend so you can see what they look like.

Christmas Tree = Happiness

I am so glad that I decided to go with a silver & pink color scheme for my Christmas tree.

I just love how it coordinates with the rest of the room and Emory is crazy about all the pink.

I got a great deal on the pink ornaments too, I bought them from Walmart and Target and only ended up spending $20.00 total.

Lucky for me, my husband is cool with any color. He is the best.

I really think we are happier when our Christmas tree is up.

I find it almost impossible to look at it without smiling.

I am also working on a wreath to hang across from my dining room table but other than that, I am keeping it simple.

A definite perk of living in a small space, a little goes a long ways!

A Home Tour

When I came across this home tour I couldn't help but giggle.

It is so different than the home I shared yesterday, yet I love it just as much.

I really am attracted to a variety of styles and if I had to build my dream house right now, I would be in big trouble.

Paint Colors

My mother-in-law cooked up the most delicious feast, I think I may have gained a few pounds :)

Since I have received countless emails regarding the paint colors, I thought I would share them with you today.

The brown stripes are Canvas Tan by Sherwin Williams.

The white stripes are Dover White by Sherwin Williams. My client just used the leftover paint from her baseboards and it has a glossy finish. She loves the sheen and would highly recommend using this paint.

I love this idea.

The cabinet is from Home Decorators.

It is currently on sale for $161.00, such a great deal.

A Little Help?

I finally did it, I started painting my faux bamboo chairs!

You can read all about my lucky find here.

This project has been on my mind forever but I have been hesitant to start because I wasn't confident in my direction.

I decided to paint them white, kinda boring I know but I want to keep them versatile.

I am using Rustoleums oil based high gloss paint, like I did with my desk.

I love the sheen and durability of the paint.

I was hoping they would only need one coat.

Man, that was a silly thought, I think they will need three, boo!

All of those spindles are killing me, it was at this point in the project that I contemplated throwing the chair off the balcony.

Such.a.pain.

I pushed through the torture and got one coat done.

Since the paint requires 24 hours of drying time in-between coats, I haven't had the chance (or found the motivation) to slap on the second coat.

Did I mention I have 4 of these chairs?

Although it is a pain-in-my-rear, I am loving the white.

Now I have to make the next big decision, what fabric for the cushion?

I thought you could help me with that.

I am drooling over Caitlin Wilsons new fabric line and have my eye on a couple of the prints.

World Prematurity Day

Today is World Prematurity Day.

Everyday I think of how lucky I am to have my little miracle.

Emory was born at 24 weeks and weighed 1 pound 9 ounces.

She spent 96 days in the NICU.

I got to hold her for the first time when she was 27 days old.

It was a long 27 days.

She had one heart surgery, a couple scares of infections, and loved to hold her breath until she turned purple!

After three long months in the NICU, she came home on oxygen.

She remained on oxygen until she was 8 months old.

And thankfully she has only been admitted to the hospital one time since we left!

She is now in perfect health with no outstanding complications.

Thank goodness for all the doctors, nurses, amazing medical technology, and lots of prayers.

We owe everything to them.

Today I will be wearing purple in honor of all the babies born too soon, you should too :)

Bijou Market!

Our Festive Weekend...

This weekend my in-laws brought me my Christmas tree!

I have officially upgraded from a 4.5 foot tree to a 7.5 foot tree, wahoo.

The tree was looking awfully lonely just sitting in the box, I couldn't help myself.

So, I decided I would ONLY put it together.

Once is was up, my urge to put the lights on was too strong.

And then I needed to take an inventory of my decorations, so I thought I would put 50% of them on, logical right?

Before I knew it my tree was 75% decorated. Yes, I need help.

I did save the rest of the decorations to up as a family.

I made a cute little video of our festivities.
I got this idea from YHL, expect theirs is way cooler :)

I need to buy a couple more decorations to finish it off but it is almost there.
And even though I know it is super early, I can't help but smile every time I look at it.
There is something so magical about a Christmas tree.

DIY Shell Art

Last week as I was blog surfing, I came across this familiar DIY art project on Always Swell.

I love they way her shell art turned out.

I am actually dying to see the rest of her home, all that white gets me excited.

Anyways, her shell art reminded me of a similar DIY project I did in a clients room this year.

I don't think I have shared the details with you before.

All I did was purchase two Ikea frames, blue card stock, and starfish from Hobby lobby.

Then I glued the starfish to the cardstock.

Once the starfish was glued onto cardstock, I glued the cardstock to the wood back that comes with the frame.

It was super easy and I love how it looks.

Here is the cost breakdown:

Ikea frame: $20.00

Cardstock: $.50

Starfish: $3.00

Total: $23.50

Not bad for "custom" art!

Yesterday I came across this fabric from Tonic Living.

I love the mauve, coral, and grey color scheme.

I think it would be fun to design a whole room around this fabric.
